CAMOLA
has been in existence since 1992 and has evolved a lot.
The
main purpose of the group was for Cameroonians to meet once
in a month and socialize. Things eventually changed as members
began to realize that Lowell was becoming more of a home to
them. The following are some of the achievements CAMOLA is
proud to have been a part of;
CAMOLA
is thirteen years today, thanks to the dedication of its founding
members and friends. This organization is proud to be the only
African organization in Lowell that has been in existence
for this length of time. CAMOLA also celebrated its 10th
anniversary in grande style with the presence of the Fon
of Mankon in the city of Lowell in 2002.
CAMOLA
provides a special group term life
insurance not only to its members but to the Cameroonian
community as a whole to help with the deportation of our loved
ones back home incase tragedy strikes.
CAMOLA
is a registered non profit organization with 501(c) status.
CAMOLA
succeeded in establishing a
sister city relationship between the cities of
Lowell Ma. and Bamenda Cameroon on November 6th 2002.
CAMOLA's contribution through father Tantoh of Cameroon, West
Africa helped to start the building of an ophanage home for
kids in a small village in Cameroon called Tatum.
CAMOLA send some donation to Educare
Africa, a non-profit organization dedicated to
improving the living and learning conditions of students in
Cameroon.
CAMOLA
is a participant of the city of Lowell race relations council
since 1999 as well as the Lowell Non profit alliance.
CAMOLA is proud to have been the only African organization
that has allowed women to be president of the organization.
The first female president was in 1999. Since then, there
has been two more women in a row. This is really history.
It
has always been the dream of this organization to make the
children know their heritage and appreciate the cultural aspects
of it. Thanks to help from the Patrick J. Mogan Cultural Center,
the kids will be celebrating their first ever Youth day on
August 6th 2005. There will be cultural dances, story telling
and traditional games played in Cameroon. CAMOLA intends to
make this a yearly celebration.
