CAMOLA
is very involved in the community and summer is one of its
most busiest periods. Members of CAMOLA look out for one another
both in times of need and happiness. CAMOLA members also stretch
out to the community to do philanthropic jobs whenever the
need arises. Some of the major activities of Camola include;
CAMOLA
Summer Cookout.
The Cameroonians Of Lowell Association
usually have a cookout every summer where they invite their
friends and families. This cookout usually takes place in
Groton. Thanks to Sr. Marilyn Gignac, our board of trustee
member who made it possible for us to be able to use the area
in Groton every year. This is one of the activities where
the children have so much fun and it is usually well attended.
Activities on this day include soccer, volley ball, swimming,
dancing and ofcourse lots of socialization. The cookout usually
takes place on the third saturday of July. Click
here for some cookout images.
City
Of Lights Parade.
Lowell is known
all over for its cultural diversity. The city of lights parade
is a parade organized by the city of Lowell to bring all the
different ethnic groups in Lowell together to promote the
aspect of togetherness as well as show the cultural diversity
of the city. This parade usually takes place in November and
it is usually well attended. Every year, Camola participates
in the city of lights parade where we have the opportunity
to show our beautiful costumes to the city of Lowell. The
Cameroonians of Lowell always look forward to this parade.
Summer
Kick-off Party.
After going through a hectic winter,
Camola usually starts the summer in a grand style. Our summer
kick-off party takes place every year and all the members
look forward to this occasion. It is usually well attended
by all the different ethnic groups in Lowell and the surrounding
cities. This party is usually planned between the months of
June and July of every year.
African
Festival
The first ever African
festival took place on the 16th of June 2002 and
it was a great success. Camola is an active participant of
the African festival. The purpose of the festival is to bring
all the Africans in and around Lowell together in order to
celebrate our cultural diversity under one roof. The festival
also helps to educate the Americans and all the others who
think Africa is made up of one country to know that Africa
is made up of many different countries, each with its own
unique culture and style. June 16th has been granted an official
day for the Africans in Lowell by the city of Lowell. The
African festival therefore will be celebrated every year by
the Africans in Lowell.
Meeting
hosting
Camola holds its meetings every first
saturdays of the month. If this falls on a major holiday weekend,
the meeting is moved to the next saturday. The hosting calender
is made available to all members at the beginning of the year.
